Meet Business Owner, Prophetess Yaya

Tell us how you got into entrepreneurship.

It was prophesied to me that the entrepreneurial spirit ran deep in me over 10 years ago while I was serving on Active Duty in the Army. I didn't grow up around entrepreneurs. My mother was a school teacher and my father was a supervisor for the department of corrections, so it was a foreign concept to me. After being told again that I would be an entrepreneur and that businesses would come from me, I went to a mentor and said "I only know how to serve and I just want to be in ministry, not getting paid for it." She laughed and said, "It won't always be that way." I'm so thankful she was right!

What’s one of the greatest accomplishments you have achieved in your business?

One of the greatest accomplishments I've achieved so far in my business has been teaching the word of God during a keynote talk at my church, and my father saying to me after delivering the message, "You broke it down better than anyone I've ever heard." That meant the world to me! The key to seeing this success was definitely activating my faith to believe that when they handed me the mic, it was my turn. And that I was ready.

Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?

In the next 3-5 years, I see myself traveling and speaking. I see myself hosting retreats, VIP Days and writing more books and courses. Ultimately, in the next 3-5 years, I see myself serving more people.

What do you love most about being a CEO Chick?

I love the opportunity to learn from women who are doing what I want to do. I love growing and CEO Chicks has so much diversity among the women entrepreneurs that expansion is inevitable. I love that it is a brand that isn't solely based on business in the aspect of making more money only, but rather than that, CEO Chicks focuses on Kingdom Business which lends to a more holistic approach to prosperity.

Who inspires you?

My mother inspires me! She served as an English teacher for over 45 years. She raised me and my three sisters and one brother all while modeling to us what a respectful and faithful wife looks like. After losing her best friend and husband of more than 50 years this past April, she still continues to press forward in Christ being a beacon of light and an inspiration to so many people!

What is your favorite book/podcast you recommend to our CEO Chicks?

Og Madino's "The Greatest Salesman in the World".

What advice would you give other aspiring entrepreneurs?

Activate your faith and go for it. Know that the people around you, no matter how close they may be to you, will not see the vision that God has given to you. He gave you the call to be an entrepreneur and the gift of His Holy Spirit will keep you aligned with His will and plan for your life. It may be lonely, but know that you are never alone! Believe in God always and believe in yourself relentlessly.

What does this opportunity mean to you?

It means exposure! It means having an opportunity to impact the lives of people whom I may have otherwise never had an opportunity to touch with my gift and services. This opportunity also means I will be exposed to the larger community of CEO Chicks so that I can grow more as an entrepreneur as I learn from them.
