Why Storytelling Sells (and Why Your Brand Needs It Now)

If you want people to remember you, connect with you, and ultimately buy from you — tell them a story.
Not just any story. A story that makes them feel something.
In the fast-paced, scroll-happy world we live in, facts alone don’t stick. Features and benefits are important, but emotions drive decisions. Think about it — when was the last time you made a purchase because a brand rattled off a list of specs? Probably never.
But when a brand makes you see yourself in their story, your guard drops, your interest rises, and your wallet opens.
My Story: From the Bottom to Building CEO Chicks®
If “started from the bottom, now we here” was a person, it would be me.
After the 2007 recession, I lost my business, my homes, my cars, and more than a few fair-weather friends. I was at my lowest — but I refused to stay there. In 2012, out of a need for trusted resources and business coaching, I started a small virtual community called Get It Girls (GIG).
What started as encouragement for women quickly turned into a place where more and more business questions came my way. In 2015, I designed a T-shirt for our group with the phrase “CEO Chicks®” — and it sold out instantly. That was my “ah-ha” moment.
By August 2016, we hosted our first annual event, Dominate — sold out, with women from around the world seeking the CEO Chick experience. Since then, CEO Chicks® has become a movement, providing coaching, courses, events, and branding services to help women collaborate, create, and dominate®.
And the truth is — none of that growth would have been possible without storytelling. My journey wasn’t just a list of credentials — it was a narrative that women could see themselves in.
Why Storytelling Works in Marketing
It builds trust: People buy the who before they buy the what. When you share real, authentic stories, your audience begins to believe in you.
It creates emotional connection: Emotions trigger memory. Customers are far more likely to remember the feeling your story gave them than the details of your sales pitch.
It differentiates you: Products can be duplicated. Prices can be matched. But your story is yours alone — and that’s your competitive edge.
It inspires action: A well-told story doesn’t just entertain — it moves people to do something, whether that’s signing up, clicking buy, or sharing with a friend.
Why Every Marketing Campaign Needs a Story
Your ad campaigns, social posts, and even email newsletters should all carry a narrative thread. Whether it’s a customer success story, your personal “why,” or a behind-the-scenes look at your process, stories humanize your brand and make your message memorable.
Without a story, your marketing becomes noise. With one, it becomes a conversation that sticks.
